Amid the heavy political tension in the Maharashtra state over the formation of the government, Sharad Pawar has called the meeting of the party’s core group meeting on Monday. It has been reported that other stalwart leaders of the NCP like Praful Patel, Supriya Sule, Ajit Pawar, and Jayant Patil will also be present at the meeting.

The main agenda of the meeting is to discuss the current political situation in the state after Bhartiya Janta Party has forfeited its claim to form the government because of a lack of a majority. Previously in a press meeting, the saffron party had announced its inability to constitute a new government and because of its differences with its ally Shiv Sena.

Speaking on the matter, NCP leader Nawab Malik said, “BJP has expressed its inability to form the government in Maharashtra. If the Shiv Sena wants support from the NCP, they will have to announce that they have severed their all relations with the BJP and their ministers in the Central government resign as well”.

On the same front, Congress party has also called a meeting at party interim President Sonia Gandhi‘s residence in New Delhi.

Political Tussle in Maharashtra

Bhartiya Janta Party and Shiv Sena have been involved in a tussle over the post of Chief Minister. BJP had secured 105 seats while Shiv Sena sealed the victory on 56 seats. Shiv Sena is demanding the execution of 50:50 formula, as per which the CM post is to be decided for 2.5 years between both the parties on a rotational basis. However, the saffron party has insisted on retaining Devendra Fandavis as the Chief Minister only. Therefore, the relation between the two parties went sour in the last few days.
