While addressing the 91st Annual General Meeting of FICCI via video conferencing, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari on Saturday, appealed to the private sector to invest liberally in the fast-growing expressways, waterways and irrigation projects as well as towards the ‘Clean Ganga Mission’.

Highlighting the reduction in the cost of land acquisition from Rs 7.5 crore per km to Rs 80 lakh per km by the government. Gadkari added, “The private players should take advantage of the reduced land acquisition and labour cost.”

He also mentioned the efforts to reduce pollution, “Access controlled expressway of Delhi would reduce automotive pollution by 60 percent in the city as the traffic will pass through the external ring roads without entering Delhi.”

Gadkari declared that the Bengaluru-Chennai expressway will be operational from January 2019 and the 12-lane Bombay-Delhi expressway, once functional, will reduce the distance between Delhi and Mumbai by 120 km.

He said that the Centre has decided to use 111 rivers for waterways and appealed to use this channel to transport goods so as to reduce transportation cost.

‘Clean Ganga Mission’

About 10-15 percent of the 280 projects under ‘Clean Ganga Mission’ has been completed.

He assured that by the end of March 2019, nearly 80 percent of Ganga will be clean and by 2020 it will be fully clean.

Gadkari announced that the cleaning of Yamuna is slated to begin shortly.

He informed that WAPCOS has signed a MoU with the Australian company Dopplemayr to enhance the public transportation in hilly areas like J&K, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh. The move will boost tourism in these states.

  1. Substantial Efforts being carried out by Mr. Nitin Gadkari and his ministry to improve and enhance the amount and quality of Multi Modal Transport in India. Surely, such initiatives will provide added impetus to Investors (Primary and Secondary) to Invest in Indian Transport Infrastructure.
