Chattisgarh state Chief Electoral Officer Subrat Sahoo has said in a statement that the notification for election will be issued on Tuesday and the process of filing of nominations will begin after the issuance of notification. The last date of filing candidature will be October 23, the papers will be reviewed the next day and the last date for withdrawing nomination will be October 26.

In a statement issued on Monday, Sahoo said that in the first phase, 16,21,839 men, 15,57,592 women and 89 third-gender voters will be voting in the state.

Polling for the remaining 72 seats in the second and final phase will take place on the 20th of next month. The counting of votes for both the phases will be taken up on 11th December along with Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Telangana and Mizoram.

Prominent candidates expected to contest from the BJP in the first phase include Chief Minister Raman Singh, who is sitting MLA from Rajnandgaon, and ministers Kedar Kashyap and Mahesh Gagda, legislators from Narayanpur and Bijapur respectively. Of the 18 seats going to polls in the first phase, 12 are reserved for Scheduled Tribe (ST) and one for Scheduled Caste (SC) categories.

Sahoo also informed that the notification for the second phase will be issued on October 26. The elections for the next phase will be held on November 28.
