Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik-led Odisha Government has released an additional amount of Rs 123.90 crore to the collectors of Puri, Khordha and Cuttack districts which were severely hit by Cyclone Fani.

The additional financial assistance was issued for the rehabilitation work for house building, clothing, utensils. The additional fund will also provide assistance to fishermen for
replacement/repair of damaged nets and boats, fish ponds, fish seed farms and
replacement of drought and milch animals.

Earlier Rs 197.59 crore was released by the Odisha Government to the Puri Collector on
June 10 for executing rehabilitation and restoration work and for the welfare of the displaced people post-Cyclone Fani that hit the Odisha in late April.

Post Cyclone Fani, till now, a total amount of Rs.1481.05 crore has been sanctioned to different departments and collectors of the affected districts for various relief and restoration measures for restoration work

A high-level review meeting was also held in the State Secretariat on Wednesday under the
chairmanship of Sudam Marandi, Minister for Revenue and Disaster Management to
check the status of relief and restoration in the cyclone-affected areas.

Earlier on June 11, Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the national capital and sought an assistance package of Rs 5,000 crore for the state post-Cyclone Fani.

Lives of over 60 people were killed in the worst cyclone that hit coastal State Odisha in April this year. The Cyclone Fani caused huge damage to property and is estimated to be in crores with infrastructure damage alone of over worth Rs 525 crore.

In a 20 minute meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, CM also sought Centre’s assistance in constructing five lakh pucca houses for people hit by the cyclone. Patnaik also pressed his demand for that special category status for the status.
