Onion prices have crossed Rs.200 per Kg in Solapur market in Maharashtra due to acute shortage of the commodity. However, prices are expected to remain firm until the last week of this month.

On the other hand, prices of onions have crossed Rs.150 in Mumbai and urban centres, and hovering around Rs.125 in rural areas. The Agricultural Produce Marketing Committees (APMC) in the state said that new stocks have started trickling in the markets in Mumbai on Saturday.

As onion prices continue to surge in markets, a vegetable vendor said, “Onions are being sold at Rs.120-150 per kg. People who used to buy 1-2 kg of onions are buying 250-500gms now. This is affecting our business.”
