The Indian Army and the Defence Ministry gave its nod to the Ordnance Factory Board for the production of 114 Dhanush Artillery guns.
Praising the ‘Make in India’ initiative, the Defence ministry said that it is the first long range artillery gun to be produced in India.

Described is described as a product of OFB and the Indian Army’s joint efforts.
It is the first ever indigenous 155 mm x 45 calibre long-range artillery gun.
As said in an OFB statement ,the gun is equipped with inertial navigation-based sighting system, auto-laying facility, on-board ballistic computation and an advanced day and night direct firing system.
The self-propulsion unit allows the gun to negotiate and deploy itself in mountainous terrains with ease.
It added, “Dhanush’ has also been electronically upgraded to enhance firing accuracies, laying speeds of the existing gun and to provide compatibility with various kinds of ammunition as well.
‘‘Dhanush’ is the outcome of a joint effort by the OFB and the Army with contributions from the DRDO, DGQA, DPSUs such as Bharat Electronics Limited, PSUs such as SAIL and several private enterprises.
Ordnance Factory Board has under it , a dimly of 41 ordnance factories. It has Defence Production experience of over 200 years.
It is the oldest and largest industrial setup which functions under Department of Defence Production under the Ministry of defence.
