About 22 fishermen were apprehended by Pakistan on Thursday, off the coast of state Gujarat. Among 22 fishermen, eight were from the state Andhra Pradesh, who were captured by Pakistan Marine Security Agency from the coast of Gujarat.

The fishermen were charged with illegally entering Pakistan through the Pakistan’s territorial sea. In the Arabian Sea, the fishermen were seized beside the International Maritime Boundary Line.

Eight fishermen who were detained by Pakistan are from the districts Vizianagarm and Srikakulam of north coastal side of the state Andhra Pradesh. The fishermen had migrated towards Gujarat and are among those 22 fishermen who are allegedly detained by Pakistan, as they had travelled into the sea with three boats.

According to news reports, all fishermen were taken to Karachi.

Through the help from officials in foreign ministry, Andhra Pradesh Bhavan resident commissioner in New Delhi, Arja Srikanth has contacted with the Indian High Commission in Pakistan seeking help from them regarding the immediate release of all the 22 fishermen from Pakistan.

It is being said that every year, fishermen from Andhra Pradesh migrates to Gujarat in the month of September and returns back in March.

As the families of all the fishermen, who were detained by Pakistan, are scared about the fishermen’s safety, the Indian government has appealed to take immediate reaction regarding to ensure their immediate release.
