Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal on Monday held a consultation meeting with e-commerce firms for working towards convergence of interests of e-commerce and small retailers.

The meeting was also attended by Minister of State of Commerce and Industry Hardeep Singh Puri and Som Prakash apart from many commerce retailers.

‘Concluded a detailed discussion with representatives from e-commerce companies a short while ago, and deliberated ways to boost e-commerce in the country, resulting in a win-win situation for the small domestic retailers and the consumers’, tweeted Union Minister Piyush Goyal after the meeting.

The meeting comes days before the Union Government is slated to table its budget in the Lok Sabha. Union Minister Piyush Goyal’s meeting with e-commerce retailers is seen as a move to seek inputs from them ahead of the Budget.

Earlier on June 22, PM Narendra Modi held a discussion meeting with Top Economists to seek their inputs and feedbacks on the Union Budget.

Nirmala Sitharaman who is inducted as Union Finance Minister in Modi Cabinet 2.0 will present the First Budget of this Government of July 5. Sitharaman is expected to announce big tax relief for the middle class and salaried people.

She had also held a series of pre-budget meetings with several stakeholders in a bid to seek feedbacks, and inputs ahead of the Budget Session of the 17th Lok Sabha.

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on June 13 held her 3rd Pre- Budget consultations with the stakeholder Groups from Financial Sector and Capital Markets in New Delhi in connection with the forthcoming General Budget 2019-20.
