Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his cabinet colleagues on Saturday paid tribute to Dr. Syama Prasad Mukherjee, the founder of Bharatiya Jan Sangh on his Birth Anniversary.

Taking to Twitter, PM Modi said, ‘Salute to the great academician and eminent nationalist thinker, Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee on his birth anniversary. His contribution to national unity and integrity will always be remembered’, PM Modi said in a tweet on Hindi along with a short video.

Bharatiya Janata Party, on the occasion of Birth Anniversary of Mukherjee, will launch its mega membership drive.

‘On the Jayanti of our inspiration, Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee, the Membership Drive will begin. I will be joining the programme in Kashi to mark the same. This drive will further connect people from all walks of life with the BJP family. It will strengthen our party’, PM Modi tweeted on Friday.

While BJP President and Union Home Minister Amit Shah also paid tribute homage to Syama Prasad Mukherjee. In a tweet, Shah said, ‘Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee is a unique symbol of patriotism, sacrifice and dedication. His whole life was devoted to the unity and integrity of India. He laid down his life in order to abolish the permit rule from Kashmir and to keep him an integral part of India’.

While Union Minister Rajnath Singh also remembered the founder of Bharatiya Jan Sangh. ‘Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee was a towering leader blessed with a penchant for serving the people. He underlined the importance of education for the youth. Dr. Mookerjee’s patriotism, courage & sacrifice is an inspiration to millions in this country. I bow to him on his Jayanti’, said Singh in a tweet.

While BJP Working President JP Nadda said ‘Remembering the great academician, the eminent nationalist, revered founder of the Bharatiya Jana Sangh, who made his highest sacrifice for India’s integrity, Salute to Shyama Prasad Mukherjee on his birth anniversary’.

Syama Prasad Mukherjee was an Indian politician, barrister and academician, who served as the Minister for Industry and Supply in Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru’s cabinet. He was born on July 6, 1901, in Kolkata.
