PM Narendra Modi Launches ‘Khelo India App’ to Promote Awareness About Sports and Fitness

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday launched a Mobile-based Application ‘Khelo India App’ in an event at Vigyan Bhawan in order to create awareness about sports and Fitness in the Country.

The ‘Khelo India Application’ is developed by Sports Authority of India (SIA) is first of its Kind and is launched under Khelo India App, aims to further the Prime Minister’s vision to develop the sporting ecosystem in India and turn it into a global sporting superpower in future.

“Today marks a momentous leap forward for sports in India, as PM @narendramodi ji unveils the @kheloindia app. The app will revolutionize every aspect of fitness & sports in India, and harness tech to help identify and nurture talent from a young age”, Union Sports Minister Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore said in a tweet.

He added, “The @kheloindia app offers 3 services: 1. How to play a sport-basics of 18 sports 2. Where to play it-resource repository 3. Fitness mapping-a 1st of its kind feature, customized 4 general public & schools, to find talent” Union Sports Minister said in another tweet.

Lauding the Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Rathore said, “The @kheloindia app is a direct result of PM @narendramodi ji’s vision for a fit, tech-savvy India – harnessing the power of #DigitalIndia to further the goals of fitness, and searching for young champions!” Minister said in a tweet.

Khelo India is an initiative launched by the Union Government to promote sports in the Country and turn India into a sporting giant across disciplines. Over the past few years, a number of athletes have come through the Khelo India competitions which aim to pick out talent from the grassroots level.

The ‘Khelo India App’ has three Unique Features that will make it convenient for Youngsters to take up a sport and also help to identify potential Champions among the Children, across the Country.

Features of Khelo India Application:   

• In the first section, users will receive information about the basic rules and regulations of 18 sports disciplines. It is a beginner’s guide to what the game is about, types of equipment needed to play, rules to follow while playing the game and scoring parameters.
• In the second section, the user can access an exhaustive repository of data of sporting facilities across the country where one can pursue a sport in his or her hometown. The list includes Sports Authority of India facilities, SAI-supported facilities and private facilities. The application contains details like address, phone numbers, location and also the sporting facilities available at the venue.
• The final section is the most dynamic feature which will help to map the basic fitness levels of children starting as early as five years for all school going students in India.
