PM Modi names 21 Andaman islands after Param Vir Chakra awardees

Going ahead with the spirit of giving due respect to the real-life heroes of the country it has now been decided to name the 21 largest unnamed islands of the island group after 21 Param Vir Chakra awardees. PM Modi participated in the ceremony on Monday through video conferencing.

During the programme PM unveiled a model of National Memorial dedicated to Netaji to be built on Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Dweep. On this historic occasion, Union Home Minister Amit Shah participated in a special function organized at Port Blair.

In 2018, during the Prime Minister’s visit to the island, Ross Islands was renamed as Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Dweep in honour of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose and in recognition of the historical significance of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
