Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeking reelection will file his nomination from Varanasi on April 26, said party president Amit Shah on Tuesday while addressing media. He will be accompanied by the party’s top Leaders and leaders of its allies. PM Modi will hold a roadshow a day before filing nomination.

Speaking to media on the occasion, party Chief Amit Shah said, ‘Once again Modi Ji will contest from Kashi (Varanasi), he will file his nomination on the afternoon of April 26. He will also participate in a roadshow in Kashi on April 25’.

He further added that many leaders of the national democratic alliance will also attend the roadshow. He said, ‘Sukhbir Singh Badal, Nitish Kumar, Uddhav Thackeray and other NDA leaders will be present during nomination filing by PM Modi on April 26′.

Modi will file the nomination papers from Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh on April 26, while a roadshow will be held there on April 25.

While Party Spokesperson Nalin Kohli in Delhi said, “Honourable Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be filing his nomination on Friday. Considering his track record as an MP and PM, Varanasi will be looking forward to welcoming him,”

Modi had in 2014 General elections defeated AAP’s Arvind Kejriwal with over 3.80 Lakh votes. Prior to Narendra Modi, BJP Senior Leader Murli Manohar Joshi represented the Varanasi Seat since 2009-2014. However, he has was shifted to Kanpur in 2014 after Narendra Modi decided to contest from Varanasi.

Narendra Modi in a run-up to the national elections 2019 will take on SP’s Shalini Yadav, a joint candidate of Mahagathbandhan. While amidst speculations about Priyanka Gandhi contesting from Varanasi, Congress is yet to make an announcement.

Challenging the PM Modi, Retired Judge of Madras and Calcutta High Court CS Karnan has announced to contest the upcoming Lok Sabha Polls from Varanasi. Varanasi will go to polls on May 19 on the last Phase of Voting and four days before the counting of votes.

General Elections 2019 have started and will spread on 7 phases from April 11 to May 19.
