The Congress party is seeing a huge rush in the candidates seeking ticket for the upcoming assembly elections. Some top and senior leaders of the party are trying hard to get a ticket. Even the leaders who had earlier contested Lok Sabha elections are willing to go ahead with their candidature in the upcoming polls.

One of the MPs who had recently won by-poll elections for Lok Sabha seats from Ajmer and Alwar and has successfully won it, is also looking forward to put forth his candidature. He said, “It would be a party decision. I am ready for whatever the party asks me to do”.

If political commentators are to be believed this rush for ticket could be mainly due to the fact that unlike BJP, Congress has not named any chief ministerial candidate and so the leaders are taking their chances. Back in 2008, when CP Joshi who was the chief ministerial candidate had lost the election, Ashok Gehlot was made the CM. These leaders are hoping for a similar situation in the current scenario.

In the 2014 general elections, the Congress party was not able to win a single seat from Rajasthan. Many leaders had not contested assembly polls of 2013 then which had Ashok Gehlot as the CM face and rather contested for MP seats. Leaders such as Sachin Pilot, Mahesh Joshi, Namo Narayan Meena and the likes had lost their seats. However, this time the focus is more on the assembly elections and overthrowing BJP government looks more of a viable option. And since there is no CM candidate prior to elections, there is a high probability of any senior leader being considered for the post.
