Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi on Saturday announced that her party will give Rs. 10 Lakh each as compensation to the family of the victims who lost their lives in Sonbhadra firing Incidents.
She further demanded that Yogi Adityanath-led Uttar Pradesh government should give them Rs. 25 Lakh each to the families of victims.
While later in the day, Priyanka Gandhi also met the family members of the victims of Sonbhadra firing incident that claimed lives of 10 people, in Chunar.
Speaking to media after meeting the family members of the victims, Congress Leader said, ‘My objective has been served as I have met the family of the victim of Sonbhadra firing. I am still under detention, let’s see what the administration says. Congress party will give a compensation of Rs 10 lakh to the kin of the person who died in the incident’.

Family members of the victims met the Congress Leader in Chunar after Gandhi was not allowed to enter Sonbhadra. Speaking to media, Family member of a victim said, ‘We got to know that Priyanka didi has come to meet us, but the administration has arrested her & taken her to a place where no one can meet her. So, we decided to come & meet her in Chunar’.

While earlier in the day, Congress Senior Leader Rajiv Shukla, who was heading towards Sonbhadra, was detained at Varanasi Airport. ‘We were detained at the airport soon after we arrived. Now they have allowed us to go to Chunar’, said Shukla as quoted by ANI.
Rajeev Shukla was accompanied by party key leaders including Deepender Singh Hooda, Mukul Wasnik, Raj Babbar, Ratanjit Pratap Narain Singh, Jitin Prasada, among others.
Earlier on Friday, Congress General Secretary for Uttar Pradesh East Priyanka Gandhi was detained by the UP Police when she was on her way to Sonbhadra to meet the family of those killed in July 17 firing incident. Uttar Pradesh Police, citing the imposition of Section 144, taken Priyanka Gandhi into detention. She was later taken to Chunar Guest House, Mirzapur from Varanasi.
The firing incident took place in Ubbha Village of Ghorawal where the head of the village went to take the possession of the land which he purchased two years ago. However, the Village Head met with Opposition from the villagers which triggered the firing that led to the death of 10 people.
