Massive protests were seen in the down south on Thursday as a large number of people took to the streets in Bengaluru against the newly amended Citizenship act. Police have permitted protesters to walk towards the Town Hall, after originally detaining everyone who attempted to do so.
Urging people to maintain calm, Karnataka Chief Minister, BS Yeddiyurappa said, “I sincerely urge & appeal to all the political parties, leaders & people, to maintain calm on issue of Citizenship Act. CAA is no threat to people of this country, it’s only an Act applied to people from other countries who seek Indian citizenship.”
on Thursday, a strike was called by Left parties and few Muslim organizations in Karnataka. Bengaluru Police Commissioner Bhaskar Rao said, “Section 144 has been imposed throughout Bengaluru, including the rural district, from tomorrow 6 AM for the next three days.”
The prohibitory orders has also been imposed across the state as preventive measure. Many districts has been told to strictly implement the order and prevent law and order going out of control in the next three days.
