The Punjab Assembly in a unanimous decision passed a resolution seeking land swap with Pakistan to make Gurdwara Kartarpur Sahib a part of India.

In exchange for the land of Kartarpur Sahib, Punjab will offer over 11,000 acres to Pakistan.

During the Assembly session, Punjab CM Amarinder Singh drew a barrage of criticism from the opposition which advised him not to view the issue of Kartarpur Corridor through the “prism of terrorism”.

The CM, however, reiterated his government’s stand on shielding Punjab from the terrorism backed by Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI). He assured that the government will not allow anyone to push Punjab back into the “black days of terrorism”.

The resolution also appreciated the move by both the Centre and the Punjab government to open the Dera Baba Nanak-Kartarpur Sahib Corridor on the birth- anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev.

CM Amarinder Singh added that the opening of the corridor was a significant moment for the Sikh community which had longed for it since partition. He called the corridor as a ‘Bridge of Peace’ between India and Pakistan.

CM, who laid the foundation stone of the Kartarpur ceremony on  November 26, also announced that he would be a part of the first ‘Jatha’ (contingent) to offer prayers at Kartarpur Sahib Gurdwara.

Singh, however, urged all the political parties to counter Pakistan’s nefarious motive of reviving terrorism in the state. He cited examples of several terrorist modules being busted by the state authorities and the large hauls of ammunition and narcotics being seized.
