Outgoing Congress President Rahul Gandhi on Friday called on members of former Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit, days after she passed away. Gandhi, who was on a foreign trip, on Thursday.

He reached Former Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit’s residence on Friday morning and met her son and Former MP Sandeep Dikshit, a former MP and the son of the three-time Delhi Chief Minister.

Former Congress President Rahul Gandhi reacted on her sudden demise had said that he was devasted to hear about the passing of Dikshit’s demise.

‘I’m devastated to hear about passing away of Shiela Dikshit Ji, beloved daughter of Congress Party, with whom I shared a close personal bond. My condolences to her family&citizens of Delhi, whom she served selflessly as a 3 term CM, in this time of great grief,’ said Rahul Gandhi in a tweet on July 20.

Former Delhi Chief Minister and Congress leader Sheila Dikshit on Saturday, July 20, passed away in Delhi at the age of 81 years. Dikshit was the longest-serving Chief Minister of Delhi and was the Chief Minister from the year 1998 to 2013.

Dikshit entered the for the first time in 1984 from Kannauj Lok Sabha seat in Uttar Pradesh. She was among close associate of former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi and a minister in his cabinet.

She was appointed as the Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee (DPCC) Chief ahead of the National polls 2019.

After Dikshit’s demise, Congress is expected to appoint new DPCC Chief soon as the assembly polls in the national capital are now just months. Among the probable faces who could be tasked with the responsibility of leading the party in the national capital are former DPCC chiefs JP Agarwal, former Union minister Ajay Maken, and former Delhi Assembly Speaker Subhash Chopra.

It is noteworthy that Maken stepped down as DPCC Chief earlier this year. Following Congress appointed Sheila Dikshit as the Chief ahead of national polls.
