Congress Chief Rahul Gandhi on Saturday offered to resign as the party President taking moral responsibility of the party poor performance in the recently concluded polls. reported ANI quoting its sources.  However, the Congress Working Committee turn down Gandhi’s resignation.

Congress after its poor show called a CWC meet in the national capital to discuss the reasons responsible for the debacle of the party in the recently held national polls.

However, Congress’ Randeep Singh Surjewala said reports of Congress President offering his resignation are incorrect.

Apart from Congress President Rahul Gandhi, and Sonia Gandhi, many other top leaders of the party including former PM Manmohan Singh, Motilal Vora, former
union ministers RPN Singh, PL Punia, P Chidambaram, Mallikarjun Kharge, Ghulam Nabi Azad, are present in the meeting to introspect party’s humiliating defeat.

Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Captain Amarinder Singh, KC Venugopal, Ashok Gehlot, Meira Kumar and former Karnataka CM SG Siddaramaiah also joined in as well. However, Madhya Pradesh CM Kamal Nath was missing from the Congress Working Committee (CWC) meeting on Saturday.

Meanwhile, party’s state chiefs of Odisha, Uttar Pradesh and Karnataka have already offered to resign from the posts.

Sources familiar with the development claimed that the party will introspect its complete debacle in Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Chhattisgarh, where it had in December, won the State polls. All the top brasses of the party and Incharges have been asked to put their proposal openly in front of the committee, sources added while further revealing the details.

The Congress won 52 seats in the recently held polls, which is only 8 more than it got in 2014 national polls. However, it has lost some of its strongholds across the country including Rahul Gandhi’s Amethi in Uttar Pradesh and Jyotiraditya Scindia‘s Guna in Madhya Pradesh.

The Bharatiya Janata Party in the latest polls has secured 303 seats, 22 more than it got in the 2014 elections. BJP along with its allies, the NDA took it’s tally up to 352 seats in the recently concluded Lok Sabha elections.
