Railways Ministry signs MoU with Centre for Development of Telematics to modernize Telecommunication in Railways

Ministry of Railways on Wednesday has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Centre for Development of Telematics (C-DOT) to establish a robust collaborative working partnership for coordination and resource sharing with respect to provision of Telecommunication facilities in the delivery and implementation of C-DOT’s Telecom Solutions and services in Railways.

Executive Director & Chairman C-DOT Board, Rajkumar Upadhyay and Additional Member, Telecom and Railway Board, Aruna Singh and other senior officers of Railways and C-DOT were present during MoU signing ceremony.

This MoU will let C-DOT and Ministry of Railways work together for modernization of Telecommunication in Indian Railways for Public Safety and Security Services using Long Term Evolution (LTE-R) for Railways following world standards, 5G Use Cases in Indian Railways in line with Make in India policy, Internet of Things, Unified Network Management System, Network Management System, Video Conference software, Chatting application, Routers and Switches.

Long Term Evolution for Railways is a next-gen communications network dedicated for railway services, enabling high-speed wireless voice and data communications inside trains, from the train to the ground and from train to train.

The synergy between C-DOT and Ministry of Railways will help in providing indigenous affordable telecom equipment & services for train operation, public safety and security applications by lowering the total cost of ownership, boost the make in India initiative of Government of India and help in bridging the digital divide in the country.

C-DOT was established in August 1984 as an autonomous Telecom R&D centre of DoT, Government of India. It is a registered ‘public funded research institution’ with the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research (DSIR), Ministry of Science & Technology, Government of India. It is a forerunner of the Indigenous Telecom Revolution in India. C-DOT research and development efforts include indigenous design, development and production of telecom technologies especially suited to the Indian landscape.
