Ahead of the Raj Thackeray‘s presence before Enforcement Directorate, Mumbai Police have detained many leaders of MNS (Maharashtra Navnirman Sena) and imposed Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code outside the office of ED in South Mumbai.

The Section has been imposed under the jurisdiction of Mata Ramabai Ambedkar Marg Police Station. According to Section 144, not more than 4 individuals can gather in a specified area where peace can be threatened. An official from Police department told media that even though MNS Chief has urged his party workers not to create any scene, the agencies cannot take any chances.

Raj Thackeray has been summoned by ED to appear in connection to IL&FS (Infrastructure Leasing & Financial Services) case. He has been asked to appear today at 10.30 am in ED’s office at Ballad Pier.

Party leader Sandip Deshpande has also been detained by Shivaji Park police with other leaders. Raj Thackeray’s partners Unmesh Joshi and Rajendra Shirodkar have been also questioned in the case earlier.

Speaking on the matter, Raj Thackeray’s cousin Udhhav Thackeray had shown his support to the MNS Chief. He said that ED would not find anything against him.

The summons issued to the top leader of MNS party has left the party workers in deep rage. The party alleged that the ruling party is using political vendetta against the leader.

The case pertains to the case of IL&FS which has defaulted over Rs. 91,000 crores. In connection with the alleged irregularities related to (IL&FS) loan in Kohinoor CTNL. Kohinoor CTNL is one of the defaulters with Rs 860 crore. ED wants to quiz Raj Thackeray about his exit from the group. In 2011, Kohinoor CTNL signed a contract to sell some commercial-residential premises in Kohinoor Square to IL&FS. It paid Rs. 500 crores as the pending loan amount but after the settlement, IL&FS lent a further Rs 135 crore to Kohinoor CTNL, on which it defaulted.
