Rajeev Kumar, the former Police Commissioner of the West Bengal Police is now appointed as the ADG & IGP of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), West Bengal.

The move was followed on an Election Commission directive.

The whole country has been evident to the attempt of CBI to arrest Rajeev Kumar in connection to the Saradha Chit Fund Case, as he was the leading the SIT that investigated the probe.

Mamata Banerjee was seen defending him and claiming it as an ‘attack on federalism’.

Banerjee staged a protest against the centre and sat on a hunger strike, which she ended after Supreme Court’s in the matter, which according to her was a ‘moral victory.

Mamata also awarded Rajeev Kumar and other officers with medals, following the incident.

Rajeev Kumar was also seen siting near Mamata Banerjee, during her protest, which raised a series of controversy that an officer cannot sit in a political protest.

Anuj Sharma, ADG (law and order) of the West Bengal Police is now the Police Commissioner of West Bengal Police.

Previously, the Supreme Court directed Rajeev Kumar to co-operate in CBI’s investigation and answer them in Shillong, considering it as neutral ground. However , it also asserted that he is not to be arrested by the CBI.
