Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh in his statement to the reporters in Jammu said that serious discussions are being held regarding the issue of the Rohingyas and soon, some action will be taken regarding this.

He, in his statement, indicated that the immigrating Rohingya Muslims are being considered as a security threat to Jammu and Kashmir and the government may soon call for the action of their deportation. He said that though the Modi led government has a tough stand towards illegal immigrants it is also keeping a sympathetic view towards the wandering minorities.

Rohingyas are a minority ethnic group that belongs to the Rakhine state in Myanmar and recently after a military operation are being driven out from the country. The Rohingya community which majorly holds the Muslims are denied the citizenship of Myanmar. After the recent army attack, the community is wandering to nearby countries in search of shelter and security.

The wandering Rohingyas are reported to be settling in Jammu and Kashmir and borders of Tibet, which is being considered as a security threat by the Indian government. When questioned about the actions taken by the government to ensure security in Jammu and Kashmir, Rajnath replied that “We cannot rule out the possibility of security threat and I have already cleared our stand with regard to illegal immigrants.”

Assuring the security arrangements made by the government on the borders to stop the immigrants from entering into India Rajnath said that whenever sealing the borders was not possible due to physical barriers, the army is with the help of technology is using sensor-based cameras to keep a check at the borders.

All the political parties are giving their views regarding the issue of the Rohingya Muslims immigrating in India. BSP Chief Mayawati had also urged the government to adopt a humanitarian view in solving the issue of the Rohingyas. She also suggested that the Indian government should hold talks with the government of Myanmar and Bangladesh.

According to the UN reports around 40,000 Rohingyas have settled in India, and 16,000 of them have received refugee documentation.

Earlier in the month Minister of State for Home Affairs Kiren Rijiju had also stated that the Rohingyas are illegal immigrants in India and will soon be deported.
