Election Commission will hold re-poll in Ernakulam constituency after official confirming of forgetting to clear the votes after mock polls.

The Election Commission will hold re-polls in the Kalamassery, Ernakulam because of no clearance of votes after the mock polls. ‘‘The mock polling was conducted before the actual election on Tuesday. But the presiding officer failed to clear the votes from the machine,’’ Teeka Ram Meena, Chief Electoral Officer said.

“The Returning Officer of Ernakulam and the general observer of the constituency have taken the decision and have found a need for re-polling. So, accordingly, we have sent a report to the Election Commission. The EC will decide a date for re-polling soon,” Teeka Ram Meena told TNM.

A difference of 43 votes was found in the VVPAT when the actual votes polled should have been 715 and the machine showed a total number of 758 votes polled in booth number 18, Kalamassery.

Besides there were reports of faulty EVMs in the state which the electoral officials rubbished. Fake news of votes being registered to only one political party in polling station no.151 in Kovalam was spread to which District Electoral officer K. Vasuki responded through a video mentioning how successfully polling happened in the constituency, rubbishing the allegations.
