Uttar Pradesh assembly witnessed an unusual ruckus on the eve of the 70th Constitution day when leaders of Samajwadi Party demonstrated a protest against the Bhartiya Janta Party-led government on Tuesday.

The protest was organized in front of the statue of Chaudhary Charan Singh statue on the premises of the state assembly in Lucknow. The party was seen carrying the placards that read- ”Samvidhan Bachao Diwas”. Along with SP, four leaders from Congress party were also seen taking part in the protest. They also sat on dharna and shouted slogans against the government. ‘Samvidhan ki hatya band karo” and ”Maharashtra mein loktantra hatya band karo’‘ were some of the iterating demands.

Speaking to the media, Samajwadi Party leader, Anand Bhaduria said that his party is protesting against the infringement of people’s rights in the nation. The leader also said that some parties are working towards the downfall of democratic ideals set by BR Ambedkar. As quoted by ANI, he said, “We are protesting in front of the statue because we want to protect the right of the public and stop this political oppression. It is the bad luck of our country that people who are murdering democracy every day are killing Babasaheb Ambedkar’s morals and dreams also. These people want to force the ideology of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) on everyone. We, Samajwadi people who are the real heirs of the Mahatama Gandhi, Ram Manohar Lohia, and BR Ambedkar.”

The leader further added that the RSS and BJP have been mocking the constitution. Another party leader said that the situation has turned so grave that the nation’s apex court has to adjudicate matters on constitutional positions nowadays.

In the alleged protest, Samajwadi Party also blamed the saffron party for manipulating the offices of CBI (Central Bureau of Investigation) and Governor. Party leader, Uday Veer also accused the BJP of cheating farmers and looting the innocent population of the nation.
