Shiv Sena and BJP fields different candidate for Kankavli assembly; parties diverge path of alliance on this seat

Moving away from the alliance in Maharashtra assembly polls, BJP and Shiv Sena has fielded different candidates against each other on the Kankavli seat.

From this seat, BJP has fielded Nitesh Rane, son of former Maharashtra chief minister Narayan Rane. While Shiv Sena has pitted Satish Sawant against its ally- saffron party. Nitesh Rane is the incumbent MLA from the Kankavli seat. He won the 2014 Maharashtra elections on a Congress ticket.

Previously, Shiv Sena and BJP had finalized the seat-sharing seat previous week. Shiv Sena had been demanding for at least 135 seats with the saffron party. However, it has settled for 124 and two seats in the Maharashtra Legislative Council from the BJP’s quota.

Both the parties will contest together for the assembly polls in Maharashtra state. Uddhav Thackeray and Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis had announced the final decision in a joint statement.
