Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray confirmed the support of two independent candidates to his party after a meeting held at his residence “Matoshree” in Mumbai on Saturday. The leader said that he has received the support of two independent MLAs Ashish Jaiswal and Narendra Bhondekar.

Ashish Jaiswal has won from the Ramtek constituency in Nagpur as an Independent candidate, while Narendra Bhondekar won from Bhandara constituency as an independent. Some close sources reported that Narendra Bhondekar also met Chief Minister Devendra Fandavis earlier and offered his support to the saffron party.

The meetings can be seen under the pretext that BJP wants to increase its tally so that it can refuse the CM demand of Shiv Sena in the formation of the new government. In the polls, BJP won 105 seats while Shiv Sena secured victory on 56 seats. This has put BJP on a backfoot where it has to pay heeds to the demands of Shiv Sena. If all goes well and Devendra Fadnavis comes back as CM, it will be the first time that Maharashtra will have the BJP chief minister for the second successive tenure in the office.

As per the Election Commission data, the Nationalist Congress Party won on 54 seats. Congress party came on the fourth position by securing a victory on 44 seats.

The state went to the polls for its 288 assembly seats on October 21. Maharashtra recorded an estimated turnout of 59.08 percent, down from the 63.38 percent logged in 2014.
