In the INX Media case, a Delhi court extended the custody of former Union Finance Minister P Chidambaram on Wednesday till December 11. The orders were passed by the Special judge Ajay Kumar Kuhar after the country’s top investigative agency- Enforcement Directorate demanded an extension of Chidambaram’s judicial custody by 14 days. ED said that the investigation in the case is on.

Till now, Congress leader P Chidambaram has spent over two months in the custody of investigation agencies and Tihar jail.
On being asked about the ongoing political crisis in the Maharashtra state, P Chidambaram expressed his grief over the matter and accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi and others for their involvement in the matter.

Earlier, Congress leader Shashi Tharoor had gone to meet the arrested leader in the jail on November 25. He said that the continued arrest of the leader is not necessary.

P Chidambaram was arrested on August 21 by the investigative agencies from his house in the national capital. Previously, the Supreme Court-led bench had said that the Congress leader shall not leave the country without the trial court’s permission.
BACKGROUND OF INX MEDIA CASE-
In 2017, top investigative agencies of the country had filed an FIR in connection to the alleged irregularities in fund clearance to INX media house through FIPB (Foreign Investment Promotion Board). It was alleged that the then Finance Minister P Chidambaram inappropriately cleared the fund to the tunes of Rs. 305 crore to the company.
CBI is investigating the corruption allegations against P Chidambaram while the Enforcement Directorate (ED) is inquiring into money laundering allegations in the case.
