A Special Judge hearing the Babri Masjid Demolition Case filed against Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Leaders including Stalwart LK Advani, moved the Supreme Court seeking more time to conclude the trial in the case.
In a letter to the Apex Court dated May, the special Judge SK Yadav said that he is hearing the case since last year on a daily basis and he needs more time to complete the hearing in the trial. He further stated that he is set to retire in September this year.
The Matter was taken up by the Top Court Bench comprising headed by Justice Rohinton Fali Nariman. During the hearing, The Top Court asked Uttar Pradesh government to apprise it by 19 July as to what are the rules and regulations when a judge hearing the entire case retires. Judges were informed that trial court judge was to retire on Sept 30 and he sought more time to complete the trial.

Following this, the Top Court posted the matter for July 19.
Special Judge SK Yadav is hearing the case against BJP Stalwarts MM Joshi, LK Advani, Kalyan Singh, and others for their alleged role in demolition the Babri Masjid in December 1992.
Earlier, the Top Court had in 2017 directed the Special Judge SK Yadav to complete the trial within two years.
It should be noted that the Apex Court while hearing the title dispute has appointed a court-monitored three-member earlier this month. Last week, the Top Court directed the Ayodhya Mediation Panel to submit a detailed report in the Court by July 18.
