Ahead of his rally in Mathurapur in West Bengal today at 4.30 p.m., Special Protection Groups (SPGs) have written to the DGP of West Bengal demanding high security.

While PM Narendra Modi‘s rally is to take place at West Bengal’s Mathurapur today at 4.30 p.m. the special Protection Groups have written to the West Bengal DGP ensuring protection for Modi’s rally. This step comes a day after Amit Shah‘s rally in West Bengal saw clashes between the party workers of the ruling TMC and the BJP. 

After the BJP state president Amit Shah’s rally witnessed clashes in West Bengal Election Commission had cut short the campaigning period in West Bengal till today. BSP Chief Mayawati had come out slamming the EC on this saying they were acting according to the wishes of the Central government.

PM Modi is also to hold another meeting in Dum Dum. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is also set to hold rallies in the state today. The final phase of Lok Sabha polls will take place in nine parliamentary seats which are Barasat, Basirhat, Dum Dum, Diamond Harbour, Jayanagar, Mathurapur, Jadavpur, South and North Calcutta. Counting of votes for Lok Sabha polls across India will take place on May 23rd.
