Setting a new example of harmony at a time when the Kashmir valley is full of pro-pakistan activities and protests, a Sub-Inspector in Jammu & Kashmir Police had tied knot with a girl from PoK (Pakistan occupied Kashmir).

Owais Geelani, the resident of Srinagar and a state government employee tied knot with Faiza Geelani, a resident of Muzaffarabad in PoK. The marriage ceremony took place in Sri Nagar which was attended by very close friends and relatives of the groom due to the ongoing unrest in the state of Jammu and Kashmir.

The ceremony took place in a hotel despite the ongoing protests and violence in the state. Ever since the encounter of terrorist, Burhan Wani, the situation in Jammu & Kashmir has been critical with clashes between forces and protestors being a daily affair.

Talking to media on the development, Geelani Senior, who has himself been a Police Office and retired as SSP in 2014 told that the 2 families have been relatives, however, they were separated across borders when Pakistan occupied the part of Kashmir in 1947. He further added that the Nikkah was performed in Muzaffarabad when he had traveled to Pakistan in 2014. The marriage after that, was delayed on various occasions because of the ongoing tension between the two countries.

Faiza Geelani is a post graduate in education, planning and management from NUML (National University of Modern Languages), Islamabad.
