The food ministry, who always aimed at making ration cards portable, announced that their ambitious scheme ‘one nation one ration card’ will be effective from the month of June next year.

The initiative, ‘one nation one ration card’ will largely cover migrant laborers and daily wagers. Under this scheme, eligible beneficiaries will be able to avail their entitled food grains under the National Food Security act from any fair price shop in the country. But this will be effective only after a biometric or Aadhaar authentication is done on ePoS (electronic Point of Sale) devices.

Union Minister Ram Vilas Paswan said, “This system would largely benefit the numerous migrant beneficiaries such as laborers, daily wagers, blue-collar workers etc. who frequently change their place of dwelling in search of employment or for other reasons across the country.”

This scheme will be effective June 1 onward.
