The Supreme Court has sought the Election Commission to share its report on the biopic “PM Narendra Modi” with the movie producers. The Supreme court has asked the EC to submit the report three days after the EC submitted the report in the top court in a sealed cover.
A bench headed by Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi said that it will hear the plea by the movie’s producers on Friday.
Election Commission has denied the screening of the biopic on any electronic media owing to the violation of the Model Code of Conduct. The Supreme court asked the Election Commission to watch the movie and file its opinion in a sealed cover by April 19. The movie producers had challenged the Election Commission’s order.
On April 10, The EC said that any movie or video “which has the potential to disturb the level playing field during the Lok Sabha elections should not be displayed on the electronic media”. the EC thus banned the screening of PM Narendra Modi that was scheduled to release on April 12.
Vivek Oberoi, the main cast in the movie said that he was happy with the response of the Election commission after the EC watched the screening of the film on the directions of the supreme court officials on April 17.
PM Modi’s biopic has surged contempt from the opposition as a move to influence the voters using it as political propaganda. According to the opposition, the biopic revolves around the struggles of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his efforts and achievement in the BJP party and Gujarat. The biopic represents Narendra Modi as a nation protector which will influence the voters in the ongoing Lok Sabha elections.
