New Delhi: Army chief MM Naravane on Friday lauded the “supreme sacrifice” of the Bravehearts in the line of duty. His statement came on the occasion of the 73rd Army Day on January 15.

The Army Chief termed 2020 as a year full of challenges and opportunities as the Indian Army stood steadfast on safeguarding the security and territorial integrity of the nation.

Referring to the India-China LAC (Line of Actual Control) standoff, the army chief said, “Our brave officers, JCOs, and soldiers have given a befitting reply to our adversaries, many laying down their lives in the highest traditions of the Indian Army.”

Prime Minister Narendra Modi wishes soldiers and their family members on the occasion of Army Day. He took to Twitter and wrote(roughly translated in English), “Congratulations to the mighty soldiers of the country and their family members on Army Day in defense of Maa Bharati. Our army is an opportunity, courageous, and determined, which has always held the head of the country high. I/salute the Indian Army on behalf of all the countrymen.”

President Ram Nath Kovind also tweeted, “On Army Day, greetings to the valiant men & women of India valor. We remember the brave hearts who made the supreme sacrifice in service to the nation. vigor will remain forever grateful to courageous and committed soldiers, veterans, and their families.”

Chief of Defence Staff General Bipin Rawat said on the occasion, “We pay homage & express our gratitude to those brave soldiers, whose valor & supreme sacrifice in the line of duty inspires us to rededicate ourselves with renewed vigor.”

Meanwhile, BSF has said that troops of the Border Security Force (BSF) detected suspicious movement of a Pakistani intruder near the international border in Gurdaspur, Punjab yesterday. Sensing the imminent threat, BSF troops fired and shot dead the intruder.
