Electricity Minister of Tamil Nadu, P Thangamani has dismissed all the accusations of the opposition who have been claiming that the state of Tamil Nadu has been having frequent power cuts and reeling under the shortage of electricity all over. Yesterday, he affirmed that appropriate scientific and administrative steps have been undertaken by the state government along with the appropriate human resource management has helped in completely doing away power cuts.

The opposition mainly voiced their dissent as apart from the city several regions in the outskirts of the city have been frequently complaining about the Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation, resorting to unscheduled power cuts during the past week. Citing the reason in a press conference, Thangamani reasoned that the cause behind such unscheduled power cuts was a drop in wind power generation and maintenance work being carried out in central thermal power generating stations and the Kudankulam nuclear power plant as the reasons for the power disruptions. He also added that some power shortage had happened also due to the non-release of 4000 MW from the Central grid and the supply of 1000 MW from the Kudankulam atomic plant for the last three months.

“We have made sure there are no power cuts anywhere in the state. There will be no power cuts in the future also. There have been minor power shortage for about half an hour in some places because of a drop in wind energy generation” he said.Mr. Thangamani said that the power cut situation was only temporary, but that it is being blown out of proportion by the opposition parties as if there were power blackouts for long hours all over the State.

The audit report from the electric board had reported losses amounting to over Rs.1599 which had occurred during the AIADMK rule from October 2013 to February 2016.
