Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi was asked to postpone his visit to Amethi on4 Oct. The district administration in Amethi said that it will not be able to provide enough security to the leader, giving the ongoing festive season as the excuse.

The district administration had written a letter to the Congress Chief Sonia Gandhi, seeking a postpone in Rahul’s visit. “In order to maintain law-and-order, a majority of the district police force will be on duty. Hence, there will be a great inconvenience in maintaining peace. Therefore, it is requested that the tour be re-scheduled on any date after October 5,” the letter read.

The letter was signed by District Magistrate Yogesh Kumar and Superintendent of Police Poonam. It also read that since the Durga Puja/Dussehra and Muharram will culminate at several places on Oct 5, therefore the administration will not be able to provide adequate security during Rahul’s scheduled visit from October 4 to October 6 may.

Responding to the letter senior Uttar Pradesh Congress leader Akhilesh Singh accused the Yogi government of deliberately trying to stop Rahul from visiting his own constituency. Singh said that the government was afraid of Rahul’s visit as they fear that he might during his direct interaction with the public may raise issues that are against the ruling BJP.

“The Uttar Pradesh government is worried and does not want Rahul to visit Amethi, fearing that he might raise issues directly related to the public. This scares the BJP,” he said. The Congress also alleged that BJP government was intentionally trying to stop Rahul from visiting as BJP Party President Amit Shah was also scheduled to visit the state on Oct 10. The party alleged that BJP wanted Rahul to come after Amit Shah and hence were making an excuse of not being able to provide adequate securing asking him to postpone the trip.

Congress also claimed that they had well in advance informed the district administration about the dates of Rahul’s visit. Yogendra Kumar, the Amethi district president of the party, had written to district magistrate Yogesh Kumar last week informing him about the dates.

Meanwhile, the state BJP spokesperson Rakesh Tripathi counter attacking the response of Akhilesh Singh said that Rahul Gandhi has failed to work for his people. Further attacking the Congress vice president Tripathi said that many promises made by Rahul are still incomplete. He added that Rahul is rarely present in his constituency and some time back missing posters of Rahul were also pasted in Amethi.

Rakesh Tripathi also said that Amethi may be the constituency of Rahul but since he failed as a leader to fulfil his promises. Smriti Irani who had lost against Rahul Gandhi from Amethi during the 2014 Lok Sabha election.

Asper the latest updates, on Monday morning the Uttar Pradesh government granted the permission to Rahul Gandhi to come and visit Amethi. The district administration said that they no longer have any issue of the Amethi parliamentarian visits his constituency.
