Expelled MLA of the Bharatiya Janata party (BJP), Kuldeep Singh Sengar has been sentenced to life imprisonment by Delhi‘s Tis Hazari Court in Unnao rape case (2017). Tis Hazari Court has also ordered Sengar to pay a compensation of Rs. 25 lakhs to the victim.

Former Bharatiya Janata party MLA, Kuldeep Sengar was found guilty under POCSO act (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) by Tis Hazari Court in New Delhi on December 16.

Earlier, the case was transferred to Delhi from a court in Lucknow on the Supreme Court’s direction. A woman was allegedly kidnapped and raped by Sengar in 2017 when she was a minor. Charges were also framed against co-accused Shashi Singh in the case. Being a four-time BJP MLA from UP’s Bangermau, Sengar was expelled from the party in August, 2019.

Charges were framed by the court on August 9, against the MLA and Singh under Sections 120 b (criminal conspiracy), 363 (kidnapping), 366 (kidnapping or inducing a woman to compel for marriage), 376 (rape) and other relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
