Mid-day meal horror returns in Uttar Pradesh as a dead mouse was found in daal, that was served to students of a government inter-college in Muzaffarnagar district.

The meal, meant to be served to students between Class 6 and 8, was prepared by a NGO called Jan Kalyan Sanstha Committee which is based in Hapur (90 kilometres away from Muzaffarnagar). At least nine children and a teacher fell ill after consuming the food and have been shifted to a nearby hospital.

State Basic Education Minister Satish Dwivedi said, “According to preliminary inquiry, meals are supplied by an NGO. We have blacklisted the NGO and filed an FIR. Further action will be taken post full inquiry.”

But this is not the first time that an incident as such has been reported. 4 days ago, a government school in Uttar Pradesh’s Sonbhadra district was accused of serving diluted milk under mid-day meal scheme. The authorities at the government primary school allegedly added one litre milk to a bucket full of water. The diluted milk was served to as many as 85 children in the school.
