List of Tax defaulters and action taken against them to be compiled

Strict action against those who fail to comply orders by August 10

GHAZIABAD: The district magistrate has directed officials at sub-divisional levels to compile and upload details of tax defaulters and the action taken against them by August 10.

All tehsildars and chief revenue accountants (CRA) will have to submit an affidavit, making sure that no recovery certificate (RC) is pending.

DM, Ajay Shankar Pandey has decided to initiate departmental action against officials who fail to comply with the order and do not upload RCs. In case RCs are found pending after August 10, the officials may even face suspension, Pandey said.

This initiative brought forward by Pandey aims to catch officials who have been evading payment of taxes for many years in connivance with departmental staff. The effort is aimed at bringing corruption to an end and setting up internal transparency. After an inquiry by the DM, it was observed that in many cases, the RCs showed wrong addresses which unduly benefited the defaulters. In other cases, no action after issuing RCs was taken.

At tehsil-levels, this data will be collected and stored in computers. However, the cumulative information on tax defaulters will be stored with CRA at the district level. Eventually, all this data will be stored on the state government’s website.

The officials will provide information like date of RC issued, tax amount, date when it was received along with name of the cashier with whom the file is pending as well as the final action taken against the defaulter.

RCs are issued when dues of electricity, excise, entertainment stamp and banks and others are not paid. An RC is also issued when a penalty imposed by a court is not recovered. Pandey informed that a list of RCs with all the wrong addresses was being compiled and sent to concerned departments.
