Justice V Ramasubramanian takes oath as the Chief Justice of the Himachal Pradesh High Court in Shimla. The Supreme Court’s Collegium had on May 10 recommended Justice V. Ramasubramanian’s name for the Chief Justice of Himachal Pradesh High Court.

Following the Central Government had on June 19 gave its nod for the appointment of V Ramasubramanian for the Top Judge Post for the Himachal Pradesh High Court.

Justice Ramasubramanian is the among the senior Judges from Madras High Court and at present is functioning in Telangana High Court.

The seat of the Chief Justice of Himachal Pradesh High Court fell vacant after Justice Surya Kant Rao was appointed as a judge of the SC.

The appointment of Surya Kant as a judge of the SC was done “keeping in mind the desirability of giving due representation on the Bench of the Supreme Court, as far as possible, to all the High Courts,” states the collegium.

Justice Surya Kant’s appointment as the Chief Justice of Himachal Pradesh HC was rejected by the Justice AK Goel, a judge of SC at that time. But Justice Surya Kant Rao was appointed as the chief justice in 2018 and the decision was conveyed through a notification of the collegium dated October 3, 2018.
