Political parties across the nation are reprimanding over the death of children due to oxygen deficiency in BRD Medical College in Gorakhpur. The Yogi Adityanath-led government, who has been a matter of discussion with its historic decisions, seems to be on back foot on this issue.

The opposition parties have united against the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh and are demanding for his resignation on the basis of ethics. Denouncing the government’s health minister Siddharth Nath Singh, the opposition has demanded his resignation also. One after another, all the prominent leaders of the opposition have called a tirade against the Yogi Government on this incident and termed the government as weak and responsible for it.

In the last 6 days, 63 children have died due to lack of oxygen in Gorakhpur. It is being said that the firms who supplied oxygen to the hospital owed it 69 lakh rupees and hence the firm had stopped the supply of oxygen. However, the hospital administration is refusing to have any such reason. This morning, another 11-year-old child died, which has further intensified the anger of the opposition and the people.

While hospital administration and government are repeatedly holding medical reasons responsible for the death of children, the opposition is telling that the reason for the death is the lack of oxygen supply. The opposition has alleged that the government has proved to have failed in forming a system in the state. Since the matter is of Gorakhpur, which is also a constituency of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, this topic has become all the more a matter of concern. The deaths occurring just 2 days after the visit and inspection done by Yogi is raising question marks on the hospital administration.

The opposition has taken an aggressive approach to this matter. A four-member delegation of Congress came to the hospital on Saturday morning on the orders issued by Congress President Sonia Gandhi. The delegation included Ghulam Nabi Azad, Sanjay Singh, Raj Babbar and Pramod Tiwari. It called the Yogi Government of Uttar Pradesh responsible for the incident and demanded resignation from him.

AAP leader Kumar Vishwas stooped down on Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and said that the UP government will be able to focus their attention on these serious ground issues only if they are able to rise above the politics of cows, temples and madrasas. He further added that if the condition of the hospital just visited by the CM two days back is like this, then the condition of the other hospitals around the state can be assessed.

Samajwadi Party Chief Akhilesh Yadav also held the Yogi-led government responsible for the incident. He said that the government had given the corpses of the dead children to their family members and asked them to leave the hospital. Even a post-mortem was not conducted. He alleged that by taking all these actions the government is trying to hide the truth responsible for the incident. Akhilesh further added that immediately strict actions should be taken against the culprits and a compensation of Rs 20 lakhs should be given to the families to each child who died.

BSP supremo Mayawati has also attributed this incident to the ruling Yogi-government of the state. She said that the BJP government is responsible for this tragic incident.

Congress Vice-President Rahul Gandhi also targetted the Yogi-government and expressed his sympathies to the families of the dead children. He said that the BJP government of the state should take responsibility for this incident. He further added that those who are responsible for this incident should be severely punished. “I and Congress party are standing with families suffering in this tragedy,” Rahul said.

AAP leader and Chandni Chowk MLA Alka Lamba, while targeting the Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, said that all this happened after the inauspicious step of hypocrisy fell in the hospital. She added that after washing the hospital with cow urine, Vandematram should have been sung to purify the hospital.

Nobel prize winner Kailash Satyarthi described the tragic incident as a mass murder. He questioned that does such incidents mean the independence of 70 years for the children of India. He said that this is not any incident, instead, it is a mass murder.
