The Uttar Pradesh government led by CM Yogi Adityanath is planning to hold its first-ever cabinet meeting in Allahabad on the banks of the Sangam during ‘Kumbh’ Mela. Government Officials who were familiar with the Development told media that meeting could be held either on January 29 or on February 4. Officials added Ministers will take a dip in Ganga following the cabinet meeting.

Government Officials said the Cabinet will not be hosted in any government building but in a temporary tent on the Kumbh Mela grounds.

“The cabinet meeting at Sangam will send a strong signal to the world on the significance of the mega event,” said Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya while confirming about the event.

Though Allahabad had hosted the first session of the Vidhan Sabha in 1952 and also housed a Raj Bhawan, which was in 1963 converted into Moti Lal Nehru Government Medical College.

On an average day, 1-2 crore people are converging on Kumbh. We want to convey to the world that our development plans and holy festivals go together. The plan was discussed at our last Cabinet meeting and it has been decided that we will have at least one sitting of the cabinet in Allahabad during such an important festival,” said Maurya.

The Uttar Pradesh government has allocated 4200 crores for this year Ardh Kumbh, more than thrice the budget of the Purna Kumbh in 2013, which occurs every 12 years. Though this is Ardh Kumbh but the Bhartiya Janta Party government in the state has changed its name to ‘Kumbh’ and Poorna Kumbh which happened in every 12 years have been renamed to ‘Maha Kumbh’.

Prayagraj, earlier known as Allahabad, is all decked up for the Kumbh Mela. From street art to top-of-the-line tents to over 1.22 lakh toilets, the Uttar Pradesh government has not left any stone unturned in order to make the religious event a big success.
