In a high-level state meeting held on Wednesday, Andhra Pradesh cabinet has approved to purchase new buses for Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation. Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy chaired the meeting.

The cabinet has decided to do away with the old buses. The existing fleet of APSRTC has 11,920 buses. 3677 buses out of it have covered more than 10 lakh kilometers, therefore, they need to be replaced with the newer models. For this, a loan of Rs 1,000 crore has been envisaged.

Other Decisions of the Cabinet-

  1. The Cabinet also approved ‘YSR Netanna Nestam‘ scheme which aims to provide financial assistance to the handloom workers. Under this scheme, handloom workers will be given Rs 24,000 annually. The scheme will be officially launched on December 21.
  2. The daily allowance of the Home Guards will be increased from Rs 600 to Rs 710.
  3. A stipend of Rs 5,000 per month for Junior Advocates enrolled in the Bar Council will be provided for a period of three years. This scheme will see its initiation from December 3, the National Advocates Day.
  4. Financial aid will be offered to the unemployed youth for buying transport vehicles through BC/SC/ST/Minority/Kapu Corporations.
  5. The credit limit of the Civil Supplies Department has been increased by an additional amount of Rs 2,000 crore.
  6. For making DISCOMS financially stable, relief measures will be taken up by the state administration.
  7. The decision to form a water grid for the supply of safe drinking water in all 13 districts was taken up. It will be operated by Andhra Pradesh Drinking Water Supply Corporation. If implemented properly, the scheme will ensure the supply of safe drinking water to 4.84 crore people.
  8. Payment to the Mid-Day Meal workers will be increased from Rs 1,000 to Rs 3,000. It is expected that tehe proposed plan will benefit around 88,296 workers and incur a total of Rs. 211.91 crore in expenditure.
  9. The decision to look after the livelihood avenues of fishermen during the period of ban on fishing in the sea (April 15 to June 14) was also taken up. For this, Rs. 10,000 will be given to all fishermen. The proposed scheme will be launched on November 21 on the eve of World Fishermen Day.
