Congress govt in Himachal Pradesh restores Old Pension Scheme

The cabinet headed by Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu has approved the Old Pension Scheme (OPS) in the state. Fulfilling the promise made during the elections in the first cabinet meeting of the Congress government in Himachal Pradesh, this decision has been taken regarding the proposal to re-implement the Old Pension Scheme.

The Congress had made this promise during the assembly election campaign. Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu tweeted. He said, “The ideology of Congress is an example of love, brotherhood and truth. Today, on the auspicious occasion of Lohri, I am very happy to restore the long pending demand of the employees of Himachal Pradesh OPS. I have full faith that the employees will give their full cooperation in the development of Himachal shoulder to shoulder with the government.”

Earlier, the Congress governments of Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh have also implemented OPS. More than 1.36 lakh employees including employees and pensioners are covered under this New Pension Scheme (NPS). The Congress party had promised to restore the OPS in the first cabinet meeting and it has stuck to it. After the cabinet meeting, Talking to the media, CM said that from today the benefit of the old pension scheme would be given and a notification in this regard would be issued soon.

“We will fulfill our promise of giving Rs 1,500 per month to women and a sub-committee consisting of cabinet ministers, including Chandra Kumar, Dhaniram Shandil, Anirudh Singh and Jagat Negi, has been set up to complete the task within 30 days,” he said. Will outline the distribution of Rs 1,500 per month.” A committee has also been formed to explore the possibility of one lakh jobs.

Sukhu said the aim of the government is to provide social security to all. He said that the state government has decided to implement OPS from the point of view of social security and humanity.

“Affordability of OPS expenditure will be achieved through financial discipline and cutting down on expenses and the government believes that there is no such thing that cannot be done,” he said.
