Also known as May Day due to its universal celebration on the 1st May of every year, International Workers’ Day extols the dedication, courage, hard-work, sacrifice, and leadership of workforces and employees all over the world. With India being home to some of the biggest corporations in the world and the second largest work-force globally with over 500 million people, it is rather a surprise that the occasion of International Workers’ Day is not celebrated as fervently as Diwali, Holi or even Independence Day.

For Chairman Gautam Adani and the Adani Group, however, this has always been the day to mark their respect and gratefulness towards the 11000+ people who make their nation-building dream a reality every day. Gratitude and appreciation from employers and companies on an occasion such as International Workers’ Day is seldom forgotten and religiously cherished by employees. Which is why for a people’s company like the Adani Group, this has always been a day of utmost importance.

To make the occasion one to remember for everyone associated with the Adani Group, Gautam Adani took to social media to share a special video message with his fellow colleagues and employees on May 1, 2018. In his speech, Gautam Adani paid tribute to the dedication and sacrifice of the employees of the Adani Group in helping it realise the dream of turning India into a superpower. He also expressed his confidence and trust in the workforce in helping the Group maintain its status as the ‘driving force behind India’s infrastructure industry’. The most heart-warming compliment of his message lay in eulogising the contribution of the families of employees who have been a source of undying support, inspiration and motivation for the workforce.
“The one differentiating factor that has defined the Adani Group has been its ability to relentlessly execute the last mile better than all other companies. My dear colleagues – this last mile is you and it is your contribution and sacrifice that have taken us from strength to strength. On this Labour Day – I must say Thank You to all of you and your families and salute you for all you do,” Gautam Adani was quoted as saying.
Such a token of gratitude, faith and confidence has touched the hearts of the thousands of people who work under the umbrella of the Adani Group – all unified by a common dream of nation-building. This effort of taking out time for reaching out to each and every member of the Adani family has further strengthened the dedication of the employees towards their work. The feeling that they are involved in something historic is palpable.

“@AdaniOnline work is a celebration. Workpreneurs at Adani get together everyday with new vigor and energy to achieve our collective goal of building a newer and stronger India. We have no mean task at hand, but guided by the benevolence of our Chairman we shall prevail #LabourDay,” said Nitin Sharma, who works in the Business Development division at Adani Defence and Aerospace.

“It’s these sentiments backed by humane approach, actions and policies of our company (under your guidance) that has given Adani group a unique competitive advantage vs our competitors. We will continue this successful march towards our states long term goals,” remarked Krishnamohan Rao, Joint President & Head – HR, Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Limited (APSEZ), after watching the video on Twitter.

For its part, the Adani Group has always remembered that its success stems from the commitment and perseverance of the people working under its banner and their families playing a supporting role. In that regard, Gautam Adani has always considered the workforce to be the benefactors of his vision, and it is clear that the day this vision is fulfilled, the rewards and the appreciation will be the employees’ and the nation’s to reap. Such is the tradition of humility, dignity and meritocracy at the Adani Group.

  1. May 1 was chosen to be the International Workers’ Day that symbolises the workers’ struggles and their empowerment in the late 19th century by trade unionists, socialists and Communists !
Good to see that it has started getting its fair importance in India too. Big groups acknowledging this day is a start.
