108 ambulance

The series of shameless and irresponsible behaviour by hospital staff continued as a woman of Meerut city in UP was denied an ambulance to carry her daughter. She ran from hospital to hospital and finally gave up and spent the night outside the emergency wing of a hospital with her dead daughter of two and a half years. The reason given by the ambulance drivers to not take the body was that the village of Imrana, kid’s mother, was outside that particular district and they were not allowed to drive outside the district.

The incident comes as a part of the series of such behaviour where hospital staff has been so irresponsible towards the patients. Just days back, a man was made to carry his son from one department to another in hands and the delay in treatment finally caused his death. Also, a few days back, the story of a man carrying his dead wife had caught eyes of the people across the globe.

Gulnad, the little kid, who is a resident of nearby Baghpat district, was suffering from viral and was admitted in the government PL Sharma hospital. However, her condition worsened and the doctors referred her to Lala Lajpat Rai Medical College & Hospital, where she was declared brought dead. After that, the lady Imrana allegedly requested the doctors there and the ambulance staff to take the body to her village and her request was turned down several times by various hospitals citing the reason that they were not allowed to take the ambulance to the other district.

Imrana stated that she paid INR 200 to a private ambulance and took her daughter to the district hospital hoping she could get some help there, but it was the same response there as well, after pleading for hours. According to her, the private ambulance people asked for INR 2500 which she could not afford. Sensing no possibility, she finally kept the kid on her lap and spent the night outside the emergency wing, where she was helped by a few people in the morning who chipped in with small amounts to send her back home with her daughter.

When reached out for comments, Jagatraj Tripathi, District Magistrate – Meerut said that the incident was not brought to his notice and that he would order an enquiry into the case.
