Yet another feather added the beauty of the Garden city- Bengaluru. That’s right; India’s largest butterfly conservatory is set up in Bangalore.

The butterfly park enclosure in Bannerghatta National Park including a “butterfly walk zone” is spread over seven acres along with a domed structure housing the butterflies-occupies 10,500 sq ft. The conservatory has been set up with the efforts of several organizations.

Plain tiger, Blue tiger, Common crow, these are not names of animals from fantasy novels. They are in fact names of a few exotic butterflies which are in the museum. More than 20 species of butterflies are housed in the amazing dome, these are different form moths (usually mistaken as butterflies). The domes also have a section in which it pictorially narrates the life-cycle of a butterfly starting from a caterpillar to larva to pupa to and adult butterfly. These butterflies come in all sizes, the smallest of them having a wingspan of 5/8th of an inch and the largest one from New Guinea having a wingspan of 12 inches.

Apart from this, there is also a theatre where you can catch a 20 minute movie which will keep you well informed about butterflies and focus on their significance and their conservation. The thought provoking movie focuses upon the relation between butterflies and man-kind and how it is important for them to survive so that the human race too can prosper.

Here is a little fun fact for you guys about these lovely creatures:

Butterfly got their names so as it was believed that witches used to turn into these creatures to steal butter from people’s house and fly away.

Can you believe it that Butterflies use mimicry to save their lives from predators? Some species imitate other species which the predators find distasteful and hence spared.

Humans are not the only smart ones I believe.

All in all, a great place to spend a day with friends and learn more about nature’s miracles
