In a fresh trouble to Congress amidst the on-going crisis in the party; its 12 Lawmakers of Manipur Legislative Assembly step down from their posts from Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee. The development came amidst the ongoing crisis in the grand old party with its President Rahul Gandhi offered to resign taking moral responsibility of the poll disaster.

All 12 MAs – N Loken, Kh Joykishan, Md Abdul Nasir, DD Thaisii, Chaltonlien
Amo, Govindas Konthoujam, K Ranjit, Alfred Kangnam Arthur, DK Korungthang, RK
Imo Singh, K Meghachandra, and Fazur Rahim – were holding key posts in the State Unit.

However, they have said to continue with the party and rather want to work at grassroot.

Speaking on the development, Manipur PCC Chief G Ghaikhangam said, ‘Some friends have tendered resignation but I have not yet seen the papers. Rahul ji has offered his resignation to give direction to strengthening the party. So at PCC levels we’ve to follow suit.

Further talking about Rahul Gandhi’s resignation, MPCC Chief added, ‘This is nothing that somebody dislikes a party but we have to follow our leader. This is the only reason’.

Speaking on the poll disaster and the massive defeat of the party in the recently held national polls, MPCC Chief said the defeat clearly shows the power of the party in most of the states have crumbled down.

Congress drew a blank in 18 states in recently held national polls.

He added The party’s Unit in every state is thinking about pragmatic measures to enhance the power of the Congress party. On the same lines, the Manipur is making efforst to overhaul and restructure the system as a whole’.

Resignation of 12 MLAs in step towards same, he added.

This came on the backdrop when its President Rahul Gandhi had offered to step down from his post at the Congress Working Committee (CWC) meeting held on Saturday. Reportedly despite the CWC rejected his resignation, now an MP from Wayanad Rahul Gandhi is said to be unfazed.

Many Senior Leaders have tried to convince him and requested him not to tender resignation. However, Gandhi is said to be unmoved.

The Congress faced a humiliating defeat in national polls and won 52 seats, which is only 8 more than it got in 2014 national polls. It has also lost some of its strongholds across the country including Rahul Gandhi’s Amethi in Uttar Pradesh and Jyotiraditya Scindia‘s Guna in Madhya Pradesh.
