A Group of 16 Farmers who are in the fray from Nizamabad Seat in Telangana has on Thursday filed a petition in High Court requesting to postpone the voting on the Nizamabad Lok Sabha Seat. The petition by a section of the farmer also requested to use ballot papers for polling in Nizamabad Seat where 185 Candidates are in the fray.

Rachana Reddy, a High Court Advocate, told news wire ANI, 16 Farmers who are in the fray from Nizamabad Seat for Lok Sabha Elections have moved a lunch motion petition before the court.

The petitions filed by the farmers stated that they have not been allotted electoral symbol, and they have not enough time to campaign as Nizamabad will go to polls on the first round on April 11.

They further requested the High Court’s direction to postpone the polls in Nizamabad and seek to conduct polls on April 18, the second round of polling. They also requested to use ballot papers in the polling where 185 Candidates are in the fray.

The Court, however, asked all the petitioners to submit their nomination papers and posted the matter for April 8.

This came days after EC clarified that a jumbo size M3 EVM will be used for Lok Sabha Elections in Nizamabad Parliamentary Seat in Telangana where as many as 185 Candidates are in the fray. The Election Commission of India has also sent instructions to State Chief Electoral Officer Rajat Kumar notifying the same.

Earlier on Monday and Tuesday, the Election Commission of India Delegation led by Deputy Chief Election Commission Umesh Sinha held review meetings with the Telangana CEO and other Poll Officials.

Nizamabad has a total of 1.5 million voters. Telangana CM KCR‘s Daughter Kalvankuntla Kavitha is the sitting MP from Nizamabad’s Lok Sabha seat and seeking another term from the same seat.

Apart from Kavitha, Congress candidate Madhu Yashki Goud and BJP candidate Aravind are the main contenders for the parliamentary Seat of Nizamabad. Out of the all 185 candidates, 178 farmers filed nominations to highlight their demand for remunerative prices for turmeric and red jowar crops.

Telangana’s all 17 seats will go to polls on April 11, on the first phase of voting.
