Karnataka Poll Officials on Wednesday said that a total of 455 nominations have been filed by 362 candidates for the second round of polling in which 14 Lok Sabha seats of the state will go to polls. He added that out of all the 362 candidates, only 25 are female candidates while rest 337 candidates are male.

Out of the total 14 Parliamentary Seats, Bangalore North saw a maximum for 40 Candidates filing the nomination to be in the electoral fray. While Hassan and Chamarajaganj recorded lowest nominations with just 13.

Karnataka has a total of 28 Lok Sabha seats and polling for the Lok Sabha 2019 will be spread in two phases on April 18 and April 23.

The Constituencies going for polls on April 18 include, Udupi-Chikmagular, Hassan, Dakshin Kannada, Chitradurga (SC), Tumakuru, Mandya, Mysuru, Chamarajanagar (SC), Bengaluru North, Benguluru Central, Bengaluru South, Chikkaballapur and Kolar (SC) Parliamentary Seat.

Tuesday, the last day of nominations saw 181 candidates filing 222 nominations. While March 29, Friday is the last day to withdraw nomination forms.

Prominent Faces who are in the fray for April 18 polling day include:

  • H D Deve Gowda – JD(S) from Tumkur
  • J Prajwal Revanna – JD(S) from Hassan
  • Nikhil Kumaraswamy – JD(S) from Mandya
  • Sadananda Gowda – BJP from Bengaluru North
  • Veerappa Moily – Congress from Chikkaballapur
  • BK Hariprasad – Congress from Bengaluru South
  • Krishna Byre Gowda – Congress from Bengaluru North
  • Prakash Raj – Independent from Bengaluru Central

The remaining 14 Lok Sabha Seats of the state will go to polls on April 23.

Congress and JD(S) in a run-up to the general elections have forged an alliance with 20:8 seat agreement. BJP going all alone in the state that sends 28 parliamentarians to the Lok Sabha.

Election Commission had on March 10 declared schedule for General Elections 2019. General Elections are slated for April-May this year that would spread on Seven Phases starting from April 11 to May 19. Counting of Votes and Results for the mega Battle of ballots will be announced on May 23 four days after the 7th phase of voting.

In 2014 General Elections, BJP banking on the ‘Modi Wave’ bagged 17 seats while Congress had won 9 seats. JD(S) who has contested 25 Lok Sabha seats in 2014 General Elections won only two seats.
