Going against the party instructions, 7 legislators from the Tripura Assembly voted for Ram Nath Kovind. Out of the 7 MLAs in question, 6 are from Trinamool Congress, the faction which has been showing their affection towards BJP off late. These MLAs had already announced their support to BJP’s candidate, post which, they were suspended from their respective parties.

Sudip Kumar Barman, a legislator in 60 members Tripura assembly, stated that his group had already announced their public support for Ram Nath Kovind and following which, all of them voted for NDA’s candidate for the presidential elections. Other than 6 TMC MLAs, Congress MLA Ratan Lal Nath also voted for Kovind.

Manik Sarkar, Chief Minister of Tripura, representing left front voted for Meira Kumar along with 49 other MLAs. The two MPs, along with the sole Rajya Sabha member from the state voted from the parliament in Delhi.
